The power of crocuses
Swiss company Givaudan presents anti-dandruff agent based on saffron
The Swiss company Givaudan has developed a plant-based active ingredient that is designed to eliminate dandruff and restore scalp health. The special molecule is obtained by plant extraction from saffron petals, which are sustainably cultivated in Morocco, the company announced. The product DandErase thus combats both the cause and the symptoms of dandruff. In clinical studies, a dandruff reduction of up to 95 per cent was achieved in participants within three days.
Yeast fungus is inhibited
Dandruff is a scalp condition that causes flaking, itching and sometimes inflammation. It is caused by an overgrowth of Malassezia, a yeast that is part of the normal skin flora. Although Malassezia is naturally present on the skin, external factors can disrupt the balance and trigger the development of dandruff. DandErase relieves itching and inflammation by restoring the scalp microbiome. It inhibits the growth of the fungus over the long term. This has prevented a recurrence of the symptoms. Dandruff continued to decrease for two weeks after treatment.
Billion-dollar company plants saffron crocus
DandErase is a natural, low-carbon plant-based active ingredient developed as part of the company's circular beauty strategy. The active ingredient was selected from hundreds of candidates. It uses the power of effective crocus flowers, enriched with unique molecules. The saffron crocus is a type of crocus. Givaudan is a global manufacturer of fragrances and flavours with a tradition going back some 250 years. In 2024, the listed company employed 17,000 people worldwide and generated a turnover of 7.7 billion euros.
