Sustainability nominated
The finalists in the product competition for the 17th German Sustainability Award have been announced
A large number of solutions from the cosmetics industry are among this year's nominees in the Nature and Resources categories of the German Sustainability Award. In the transforming field of nature, this includes the mineral and vegan anti-UV fluid SPF30 from Lavera as a pioneering skincare solution. According to the jury's decision, the product innovation from the natural cosmetics manufacturer helps to protect natural habitats and regenerate the environment. It is one of the frontrunners among Germany's sustainable innovators.
Curd soap powder and paper packaging
According to the manufacturer, Hautwohl's curd soap flakes are not only yielding and economical - they can replace all other household cleaning and washing products. The all-in-one solution contains natural ingredients from controlled organic cultivation, is fat-dissolving, mild to the skin and leaves no harmful residues. The Global Eco Pack was nominated as an environmentally friendly packaging artist. The international team from the cosmetics, mechanical engineering and packaging industries develops and produces patented, plastic-free and recyclable paper packaging worldwide that makes companies more environmentally friendly.
More upcycling and refilling
Numerous companies from the cosmetics industry are also nominated in the “Resources” category. These include a new pomegranate and maca facial care product from Weleda, which uses upcycled raw materials. Pomegranate oil is obtained from the seeds of juice production, olive leaf extract comes from the olive harvest and the packaging is made from recycled glass. A new hair care solution from Lerabell, meanwhile, reduces its ingredients to their essence, saving packaging material and emissions. Powder and water later become a liquid hair care product with natural-based active ingredients. Durable aluminum bottles replace disposable bottles. The Austrian company Holy Pit has launched the first refillable sunscreen stick on the German-speaking market. It is available in SPF 30 and SPF 50+ and consists of a case that can be refilled with paper refills. Holy Pit has also launched a refillable SPF 30 sun spray.
Less packaging, less plastic
The drugstore chain DM presents a toilet paper made from recycled, unbleached cardboard that reduces the use of chemicals, water and energy.
Tighter wrapping and smaller packaging enable higher transport utilization and reduce CO2 emissions. Many of the nominees are already focusing on solutions to reduce packaging plastic. Cosanea, for example, has presented a toothpaste in a glass bottle. The company Zerooo is working with brands and retailers to develop reusable systems for drugstore and cosmetic products and uses existing deposit machine structures.ECO Holding, on the other hand, offers 100% plastic-free, compostable packaging made from potato starch.
