Combating Pigmentation Spots on All Skin Types
New Active Ingredient Derived from an Antioxidant Found in Tea Also Preserves the Skin's Microbiome
Givaudan has unveiled Illuminy 388, a new active ingredient designed to address pigment disorders in all skin types. According to the manufacturer, it is crafted from EGCG, an antioxidant found in green tea, using a biocatalysis process.
Extensive Testing Carried Out on All Skin Types
Givaudan reports that it conducted in-depth clinical studies involving 200 participants in order to test the prebiotic's efficacy on skin types from Africa, Asia, India, and Europe. The company found that Illuminy 388 enhanced luminosity and skin tone homogeneity within two weeks. Pigmentation spots were also considerably reduced after another two weeks.
Sugar Component Gives the Active Ingredient Prebiotic Properties
The active ingredient contains a sugar component that enables it to be absorbed via cellular glucose receptors, the company adds. This gives Illuminy 388 prebiotic properties, triggering the release of a niacin derivative by the skin microflora. The active ingredient works in synergy with the microbiome to preserve the balance of the skin's microbiota.
