L'Oréal has acquired a stake in US biotech company Debut. The ingredient developer features a cell-free bioproduction platform that bypasses the limitations of traditional fermentation. It thus takes direct control of biological processes to produce complex natural products such as polyphenols, biopolymers and natural dyes. This type of synthetic biology reportedly is expected to reduce complexity and increase the amount of products that can be manufactured.
