Less plastic thanks to innovative packaging

dm saves plastic with its own brands

With immediate effect, dm will no longer use virgin plastic for its own brands Balea, babylove and alverde NATURKOSMETIK, thus saving resources and materials. A tube with a diameter of 40 mm weighs 29 per cent less on average thanks to the new reduced cap design. This leads to a reduction in CO2 both during production and transport.

Massive savings on Balea and alverde products

The effectiveness of the new packaging is particularly evident in the Balea Professional shampoos and conditioners: Around 23 per cent of the closure material is saved, which means 16 tonnes less plastic per year. The switch to recycled material replaces 86 tonnes of new plastic per year. The alverde NATURKOSMETIK organic aloe vera & organic chamomile shaving gel and after shave care now also use 33 per cent less plastic, which corresponds to a saving of 1.2 tonnes of plastic per year. The switch of further products is planned.

Future goals: More recycling and mono-material packaging

dm consistently pursues the goal of increasing the proportion of recycled plastic in its packaging. Currently, over 40 per cent of dm brand packaging is already made from recycled plastic. This proportion is set to rise to 50 per cent by 2025. In addition, dm is focussing on mono-material packaging, which offers better recyclability.
