Cooperation between TU Dresden and Estée Lauder

Science and cosmetics explore the benefits of joint research

The cosmetics giant and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Smell and Taste at TU Dresden and Professor Thomas Hummel plan to work together for several years. The aim is to investigate the neurological connections between fragrance and emotion. The results of this research will be used by ELC’s scientists and product developers to adapt products and marketing even more closely to customer needs.

Fragrances arouse feelings

Estée Lauder has long been aware of the strong link between fragrance and emotion, as this is also the path that leads to consumer well-being. The collaborative research suite includes a range of advanced measurement science approaches that evaluate neuropathways related to scent, psychometric and physiological analyses, brain imaging studies and more to assess the interplay between scent and emotion.

ELC Atelier Co-Creation Space in Paris

The findings will be used in ELC's R&D facilities worldwide, including the Paris-based Atelier, a new co-creation space that will open in early 2025 and focus exclusively on fragrance innovation and craftsmanship.
