An emulsifier that makes you happy
Lucas Meyer Cosmetics launches surfactant-free quinoa-based ingredient
Lucas Meyer Cosmetics has developed a surfactant-free emulsifier based on quinoa starch. According to the Canadian company, the new development "Pickmulse" was created using a patented technology that significantly improves the sensory properties. The oil-in-water emulsifier ensures high skin compatibility and is microbiome-friendly. Pickmulse is now being launched on the market worldwide.
Faster formulations
"Pickmulse offers a versatile, innovative approach for cosmetics to accelerate the development of new formulas and increase consumer satisfaction," says Isabelle Lacasse from Lucas Meyer Cosmetics at Clariant. Due to the small size of the quinoa starch particles, the product enables easy formulation of pickering emulsions with an excellent sensory skin feel. When Pickmulse is emulsified with oil, it can also be used for different textures from sprays to smooth creams. As an encapsulation system, Pickmulse can also increase the stability of sensitive ingredients.
Well-being is increased
According to Clariant, scientific studies have shown that the improved tactile experience stimulates well-being and the reward areas in the brain, which is in line with the market trends in neurocosmetics. These benefits have been confirmed in measurements using functional magnetic resonance imaging and electroencephalograms, as well as in surveys of test subjects.
Organic quinoa from Bolivia
Pickmulse is made from quinoa, a nutrient-rich grain that has been cultivated in Latin America for centuries. Lucas Meyer Cosmetics sources organic quinoa from fields in Bolivia that are traditionally farmed. The company works with the Pro Inpa Foundation to promote a more resilient local economy. Lucas Meyer Cosmetics is a leading supplier of high-quality ingredients for the cosmetics industry and has been part of the Swiss Clariant Group since the end of 2023.
