Preservation Efficacy Test & Microbiome-friendly Studies

Cosmetic preservatives prevent microbiological spoilage during storage and use, but when found in high percentage or are too strong, they might disrupt the fragile skin ecosystem.

Cosmetic preservatives prevent microbiological spoilage during storage and use, but when found in high percentage or are too strong, they might disrupt the fragile skin ecosystem. Moreover, other factors like pH, partitioning effects in Multi-Phase systems, surfactant effects, specific manufacturing process and protective packaging affect the antimicrobial protection. So how can manufactures produce skin-friendly cosmetics that are still able to overcome microbial contamination that might present a potential risk to the end user? At QACS, The Challenge Test Lab we have adopted a holistic approach to examine both the Preservation Efficacy and the efficacy on skin Microbiome of a cosmetic formula, with validated methods. Combining the above data provides valuable information to select the right preservatives and dosages in cosmetic formulations, to develop an adequately preserved formulation with the ability of maintain skin microbiota equilibrium. Tests which are offered :

  • Preservation Efficacy Protocols – (ISO 11930, Eur. Pharmacopoeia, Wipes Protocol)
  • Synergism of preservative system components
  • in vivo and in vitro Microbiome friendly studies
Tests can be performed at all stages of product development starting from RnD to final products. Get in touch with QACS’s support team to assist you designing a holistic approach for your products!
